Domperidone is a medicine that is commonly used to treat symptoms of nausea and vomiting.
What is Domperidone?
Domperidone tablets contain domperidone as the active ingredient; this substance belongs to a group of medicines known as dopamine antagonists.
It is an anti-sickness medicine that comes in the form of a tablet or liquid.
It is available to order at MedsOnline247, following an online consultation (questionnaire) with one of our certified clinicians. If you order with us before 2pm, your order will be shipped the same day.
What is Domperidone used to treat?
Domperidone is used as a treatment for nausea and vomiting. It can also be used to alleviate stomach pain if you are having end of life care (palliative care). Other common uses are when your stomach cannot empty food as normal otherwise known as gastroparesis and is useful for those who suffer with heartburn or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD).
Domperidone has been shown to significantly increase prolactin levels in most (although possibly not all) lactating mothers. It is not licensed as a galactogogue, but is considered the treatment of choice to enhance breast milk supply in specific circumstances when recommended by a midwife or specialist.
It works by blocking the messages that are passed between the brain and the digestive system.
This causes the muscles at the exit of your stomach to relax, reducing the likelihood of you being sick.
Domperidone is also able to block messages sent between parts of your brain known as the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and the vomiting centre. This prevents nausea and vomiting and can be particularly useful in motion or travel sickness.

Domperidone is an effective treatment for nausea and vomiting, but it may not be suitable for everyone to use.
This medication is only recommended for adults and adolescents aged 12 years old and above.
